Google Adwords

What is Google Adwords?

Google Adwords is the clever programme Google has created to help you in marketing your product or services within the Google world, and its affiliate sites. This is acheived by the use of a text ad that appears once individuals search for associated phrases. This appears as  “sponsored link” so users can tell the difference between organic and paid for results.

The system is a “pay per click” system, this means you’ll be able to control how your ad shows through bidding for a series of phrases, but you solely pay the number you’ve got bid for if somebody clicks on your ad as a results of an internet search, i.e. pay per click!
The ads take the format of a short text ad that has a title line, two short descriptive lines and a computer address link to a web site or a particular web site page.

The ad will show on the page of results you decide you wish to show for. For instance page one of Google for an search result. The ads appear at the above and to the right of the organic results (although they are phasing out the right side display!). You can pitch at what position on the page your ad can show, through the amount you bid. Crudely this could mean the higher you bid for a phrase, the higher your ad appears on page one of the Google seach engine result page
.
Research shows that eighty seven of internet users do not scan past page one of the results. In addition, the higher your web site shows on a page can lead to more traffic to your website, as web users like to click on the ads/search results at the highest of the page.

Why use Google Adwords?

There’s a difference in the kind of beahviour between the types of visitor coming to a website by general means of a search engine result to those that comes directly from Google Adwords or “pay per click traffic”.

The reason for this may be that traffic via surfing in organic results is often just browsing for info, whereas traffic via pay per click is already aware of what they want. Therefore they would want that info as quick as possible,  so could been seen as a higher quality lead or traffic source.

A well worded targetted ad already taps in to what they are after whether that be a product or services.

But…Its not quite as simple as that!

Sorry to say, yes you will pitch the best bid for phrases and gain some nice positions and traffic. You could set up a Google Adword Account and Campaign in minutes, but not working things out correctly you will soon realise that your budget will get spent quickly and you may not get the leads you hoped for.

You may get a huge spike in traffic but if this isnt of a good quality then you are throwing good money after bad. You need to have quality phrase, quality ads and relevant content to provide. If not they traffic will simply clikc back and find something more relevant to what they are looking for all the while costing you a click with nothing in return.

When deciding who gets top slot the sponsored links for phrases, Google does some clever calculations based on the bid, the number of people that would use the phrase, the relevance of the advert and also the quality and relevance of the target landing page. This means you could end up paying less for a bid and getting a higher placing than a competitor.

All you have to do is know what to write how to write it and bob’s you uncle…
